ThrowbackI always love doing the zoo unit and the children enjoy it as much as I do. I Went to the Zoo big bookThis lap book to big book is a book about two children who visited the zoo and what they saw while they were there. Pocket Chart Story Using Children's NamesMy little ones always enjoy when I include their names in stories and this pocket chart story does just that. They can also tell the story themselves. Small Group ActivitiesChildren always love learning with hands on activities and what better way to get them counting then with small animals and game dice. Children roll game dice and identify the number and then count out that amount of animals for their zoo mat. Once they have counted out the animals they write the amount on the mat. Need to differentiate the instructionChildren can also use the dice to add and subtract animals on their mat. Measuring zoo animalsChildren used 1 inch tiles for measuring the animals. After they figured out how tall or long the animal where, they wrote their finds on the data sheet. Roll It, Say It, Write ItAlways a class favorite. Children are able to practice writing their letters in uppercase and lowercase, by rolling the dice and identify the letter and writing.
