I have been looking for a sensory table with an edge around it so that the children could place items down as working. Since I could never find one what is a girl to do? Ask her husband to build me one. Love it! No more mess on the floor, it all stays on top of the table thanks to a lip that he build all around it. Now I can add activities to the table because they now have a place to work. Here we taped a letter strip to each side of the table and added rubber letters to bird seed. Children found letters and then placed them on the letter strips. We also place word cards in a basket for them. This will be a great addition to the classroom environment. Can't wait to think of more things to do with it. Classroom Design Workbook Create an Effective Learning Environment. Teachers Pay Teachers Teachers Notebook

Building family engagement in the classroom needs to start on the first day of school or before. A great way to get the ball rolling is to schedule a parent orientation before school start or on the very first day of school.
During the orientation take a survey of what family are interested in and tap into those interest. Parents feel more comfortable as a classroom participant then just a classroom observer. A classroom favorite and rightly so, since it is a fun way to learn about rhymes. So why not paint some more, some more. Today we read the book outside, so that we could paint some more.
