Winter Rain Science Activity  This is a simple water play science activity where children can learn how rain is formed in clouds. All you need to do is pock holes in the bottom of a clear plastic cup, I used a hot nail to make the holes. Add a little bit of blue watercolor to the water and give children a can of shaving cream to make a cloud in the cup. Have children scoop water with a tablespoon or small measuring cup and pour it over the shaving cream cloud. Children will discover that the water builds up in the cloud to form rain that falls from the clouds. Winter Ice Science Activity
Children will enjoy building ice sculptures with ice cubes, salt and liquid watercolors. Set is simple, all you will need is a tray like a cookie sheet with sides, ice, salt, liquid watercolors or food coloring. Have children stack ice and use the salt to help the ice stick together. Then have them drip different colors on top of the structure so that they can observe the color following through to channels that the salt formed. Winter Iceberg Engineering Activity  My children grab this activity tray almost every day so that they can build and rebuild icebergs for the arctic animals.
Winter Themed Math Activities for Preschoolers Winter STEAM Math Activity  Snowflakes are nothing but amazing. I love to share with children how each snowflake is different in shape, size and patterns. The beautiful thing about snowflakes is that they are symmetrical. With this loose parts activity children can learn how to build symmetrical snowflakes with a loose parts tray of different color and size of floral stones. Winter Math Counting Activity  Stringing beads is always a class favorite so when you pull out this bead stringing activity your children will be sure to give it a try. All you need to do is grab some bamboo skewers, snowflake beads or winter-colored beads and the snowflake number printable. You can grab it for FREE in the freebie vault. Stick skewers into a foam board and tape the snowflakes to the board and away you go. Math Mitten Activities for Preschool  Mitten Graphing Activity I don’t know which one of these math mitten activities are the children’s favorite because they enjoyed each and every one of them. But… If I have to pick one I would have to say I enjoyed doing the mitten graphing activity with them the most. I always like doing data collecting activities with the children because their eyes just light up when they are able to answer questions based on their data collection sheet.  Mitten Pattern Activity Patterns, patterns everywhere. My children have been rocking the pattern skills and I chalk it all up to these fun hands-on learning activities that incorporate building patterns. All you need to do is put a bunch of color mittens in a sensory tray and encourage your kiddos to make patterns as they tweezer the mittens out. Mitten Number Order Activity Winter Themed Language and Literacy Activities for Preschoolers Snowflake Sticker Letter Activities  This is one of my class favorites! I mean all children love to use stickers and if I can use stickers in a way to help them learn their letters then I’m going to do it. All you need to do is add letters to the FREE printable that you can find in the freebie vault. Print and place around your classroom. Write letters on dot stickers for the children to use to walk around the room and find the matching letter snowflake. Mitten Beginning Sound Picture Cards  If an activity has a data sheet my preschoolers will run to the activity. They especially like to find the letters in their name and then write each of those letters on their letter data collecting sheet.  Easy winter art activities for preschoolers is a must for the preschool classroom. That is why I made up a list of my favorite winter themed art activities for preschoolers. If you have been following me for a while then you know that I am an advocate for open ended and process art activities. That is why I think you will be falling all over these open ended winter art activities for preschoolers. Open Ended Snowman Art Activity  This activity is an easy winter art activities for preschoolers all you will need is construction paper, scissors and glue. Provide children with a sheet of construction paper for the base. Any color is fine. Prepare white and black construction paper into one-inch strips of paper. Prepare a supply of precut triangle noses for the snowman. Set out a supply of glue and scissors. Have children cut or tear the white strips of paper for the base of the snowman. Have children glue their pieces onto the paper. Next, have children do the same thing for the black strips. Encourage children to use the pieces for the eyes and mouth of the snowman. To finish off their snowman, have them put an orange triangle for the nose. I love how they all turn out so differently. Winter Process Art for Preschoolers Have you ever tried process art activities with your preschoolers? Then this is the one for you. This fun winter art activities for preschoolers is one that I have done over and over again because it can be used with so many different themes. This is also one that the children will ask for again and again.
Provide children with a sheet of construction paper in winter colors. Prepare a supply of square tissue paper in a variety of winter colors. Mix up a batch of clear glue with glitter paint. Provide children with different colors of glitters. I like to use salt and pepper shakers for my glitter so that children can’t get carried away with it. Have children use the supplies freely to create a beautiful layered collage. Once dry trace a raindrop on the back and have children cut out. Winter Themed Watercolor Art Activities Have you ever noticed that the minute you get out watercolors the children are lined up to use them? If that is the case in your classroom then they will love the twist to these two watercolor activities.
Easy Directed Drawing for Preschoolers Directed drawings help children with learning how to follow directions along with learning how to form simple shapes that form pictures. But most of all children will build their confidence and start to identify themselves as artists, because they will discover that each of their drawings are unique and represent their own personal creativity. Northern Lights Winter Direction Drawing Watercolor Activity  Provide children with a sheet of white watercolor paper, black sharpie or black oil pastel, and watercolors. Start by demonstrating and describing how to draw the hills. Continue to demonstrate and describe how to make the trees and the moon. Once the drawing part is complete, have children use their watercolors to make the northern lights and footprints in the snow.
