Top 10 Live Meeting Activities for Distance Learning

Distance learning has had it's ups and downs over the last few weeks, but I finally feel like I have a routine that we all like.  

Here is a list of my Top Ten activities that have made my live instructional meetings successful. 

Show and Tell
​Infuse activities into your time that help with getting to know each other.  A great game for this is show and tell. Have them bring diffrent items that are based on a certain subject.
Favorite Color
Favorite Snack
Favorite Drink
Favorite Toy
Favorite Book
​I think you get the point.

Scavenger Hunts
If you are teaching a color, shape, or even beginning sounds.  Have your kiddos go on a scavenger hunt to find a particular item.  Set a timer and tell them they have one minute to find something that is yellow.  You will be amazed at what they will bring back to show the others.

Play Simon Says
Play games like Simon says.  For the first few times you play you might need to be Simon, but once the children get the concept of the game pick a friend to lead the game.  Keep track of how gets to be the leader so that you can insure that all friends get a chance to show off their master Simon says skills.

Interactive Games
These are games that can be used to teach a letters, numbers, colors or even shapes.  Our favorite one is swatting flies with our paper swatters when they see a certain letter bug fly by.  

We have also played picking apples where the children are pretending to pick an apple ever time they see an apple with a letter a on it.  

Directional Drawing
Directional drawing are always a win win.  Our favorite ones are these Alphabet ones from the Pond.  Make copes of them and place them in bi-weekly distance learning activity bags that can be picked up and used during your live distance learning time. 

Roll and Do Exercise Game 
Use a rolling dice video from YouTube play the video and have them say "stop" When the dice stopes they identify the amount and do that many exercises that a child has picked.
Push Ups
Jumping Jacks
Squats
Running in Place 
Pretend to Jump Rope 
What ever the exercise is that they pick that is what everybody will do.

Charades 
Pick a child to pretend to be an animal.  Have them act it out with out saying what they are.  Then have the other children try to figure out what the animal is.

Would You Rather? 
Ask silly questions like, "Would you rather walk like a penguin or jump like a kangaroo?"  You might have to come up with the first few Would You Rather questions before you pass it on to the kids to ask would you rather questions. 

Play Freeze Dance or Silly Dance Contest
Play some of your children's favorite dance songs.  When the music stops they freeze.  You can add a little diffrent twist to it and have them freeze with a silly face.

Send Home Activity Bags
Send home prepped activity bags that go along with a theme of study that you would like to cover.  Provide children with activities that they can bring with them to a group meeting.  You will be able to use these activities during your live distance learning time.  Children will be able to share ideas and ways that they can use the materials. 

Simple Distance Learning Activity Packets
