We have been very busy this week with one of our favorite unit on Apples.

Every body found out how many apple tall they were.  We taped cut out apples onto our large building blocks and the children stacked them in order from 1 to 10.  Next they stood next to the stack of blocks and asked a friend to help them see how many apples they were.  Next they sat down at a table and glued apples to a sheet to show how many they were.

Children worked on building their fine motor skills with pinch and cover activities.  Children pinched pop poms with cloths pins and placed each pom pom on a work mat.  They couldn't wait to go to the peel and stick table after finishing their pinching activity.   Children took their time to peel and stick stickers on dots to create a colorful apple tree.

We learned about the letter A with a fun color collage activity that turned into an apple when completed.

The children strung sparkly beads, painted corks, painted bottle capes, silk leaves and wood beads to make a child created apple tree.

Hi,
I have a question about how you rotate / set-up centers.
I have 26 students in my pre-k class. For centers we have been rotating to 3 groups everyday. I have 2 IA's and myself. So Monday we have 3 center activities, then Tues. 3 different activities etc.
I am finding it is difficult to have a quality center time with 7-8 students in a group.
I was wondering how you manage centers. I see you have 4 activities students do throughout the week. Are these activities teacher led?

My small group activities are teacher led. We have 7 to 8 children in each group.

You are right at times it is difficult to have a quality small group time with that many children. When it is an activity that requires me to have closer interaction then I split that group in half. Example I will have the 8 children with me but 4 are drawing me a picture while the other 4 are working with me on the activity and then I switch. My small group might take me a little longer that day but the outcome is worth it.
