It is that time of the year that we talk about our community and how every community has a name. So why not name ours? How did we name our classroom? We started out by asking our little ones to come up with names for our classroom community. Next we went around the group and asked them to vote for which name they liked the best. With 40 children in our class we decide to use the tally system to make voting simple. What's the population of the class? The children wanted to know what our population was, so we had them help us count all of the boys and girls. One little one noticed that our classroom had more than just boys and girls. He said "but we have teachers too." Who could argue with that so we had them figure out how many adults do they see in our classroom each day. They came up with nine. (Teaching staff, volunteers and sub staff that they saw for the day) For more ways to vote on naming your community.Last years post on how we named our community. Community Helper CraftWhen I Grow Up craft is a great extension to your community helper unit. It is also a fun way for your little ones to share a little bit about themselves. You can find this craft on TPT
