The Secret to a Successful School Year
A successful school year starts out with a pacing calendar or map. A pacing calendar will help you prepare for the year ahead, it will provide you with a road map for your instruction.
What do you want and need to cover?
A pacing calendar will allow you to be sure that you have covered all the key concepts and standards over the course of a year.
* Social Development Skills
* Language and Literacy Skills
* Math Concepts
* Learning Themes
It will also help you integrate subject areas across your curriculum.

Start by planning your monthly themes of study.
I did this by using the What's Planned sheets found here. I then printed my theme of studies post it note sheet and started planning. (note I printed the theme of studies twice one for What's Planned and one for my pacing calendars.)
Print sheet onto card stock if you have not already done this. This is what you will be using to place your post it notes on before printing each templates.

Here is how you can create your own pacing calendar or map.
I taped my calendars together so that I was working with one sheet for each month. I also chose to use a different color post it for each subject.

As I worked through the process I decided to print some of my sheets twice. I did this so that I could continue to go over some key concepts for my students to have a rich and deep development of those concepts.
I place my pacing calendars in my lesson plan binder at the beginning of each month.
Here is to having a stress free and well planned school year.
